St. Thomas Mat.Hr.Sec.School, with all its unceasing achievements, crystal clearly portrays the vision of a great man, His Excellency Dr.Ambrose, the then Bishop of Tuticorin Diocese.

Inception of the School:

There was a dire need of an English Medium School in Tuticorin town as early as 1972 which inspired our Founder. He founded the School on 12th July 1972.

It began with a very humble beginning. The School had classes from L.K.G. to I Std. with a skeleton teaching staff of thee only. The, meagre number of students and the staff did not dampen in any way the spirit of the management, rather it was a source of encouragement.

Rev.Fr.Antonysamy, the then Parish Priest of Innaciarpuram Church, was directly in-charge of the School.

Correspondents and principals:

In the year 1974, Rev.Fr.JosephMascarenhas became the Principal. He was also the Correspondent. It was in the very same year the Management started a hostel to fulfil the needs of the students from outside Tuticorin. Now the School was upgraded to a Middle School starting from Std VI. It was co-educational uptoStd V.Rev.Fr.JosephMascarenhas was the Principal for nearly 10 years. In the year 1985 Rev.Fr.AugustineSanthanamModuthagam wore the mantle as correspondent and Mr.A. Francis became the Principal. From 1991-1995 Rev.Fr. Julian was the Correspondent of the School.

It was in the year 1995 June Rev.Fr.V.P.Oswald was appointed as the Principal and Correspondent of the School.

Growth and Progress:

In the beginning we were following CBSE but later on, we switched over to the board of Matriculation due to practical reasons.

In 1979 the very first batch of X Std. students appeared for Matriculation examinations and the academic results were really encouraging. And so the school embarked on (10+2) Higher Secondary Courses. In the beginning various streams such as maths, science, commerce and vocational were introduced. But since most of the students aspired to enter the professional colleges, later on the first group i.e. maths, biology and maths, computer science alone was retained.

The very first batch of XII Std. passed out in the year 1982. Both in X Std. and XII Std. our students have set outstanding records throughout the years
